Where we respect lines :
Unearth hearts
Sit with joy
The Stillness Project aims to support efforts to help children gain a deep understanding of the ecosystem in which they live; develop a sense of wonder, respect and empathy for everything that is part of that ecosystem – the earth, plants, animals, and people – and to instill creativity and compassion into their daily lives.
In an age where many of the old ways are dying and values eroded-much like the top soil- it is hoped that this project will help arrest this trend, and perhaps resurrect these at least in the hearts and minds of the next generation.
A Through our projects, we have been able to rekindle within the children of High Range School a genuine relationship with nature, which we believe is the only way to make them care passionately about nature and all its creatures, including humans. Although born and brought up in the lap of nature, it is now that these children have learnt to see and appreciate what they see around them, and understand that we are all connected and part of an interdependent network.
As part of the ‘Stillnessandme’ project we decided to explore ‘Stillness’ through a painting commissioned for ‘Lahe Lahe.’ The students came with their ideas. They sketched, discussed, reflected and they wrote poems in an effort to enter and explore stillness for almost five months. The time period saw them moving deeper in, and then out, as life and time does unto us. In and out of the canvas they played as their ideas fructified and manifested. Some moved in deep and some walked at the periphery, but everyone shifted.

The High Range school children visited “Dare’ a school for the differently-abled, run by Tata Global Beverages in Munnar, in October 2016. For those at ‘Dare’ the joy of the journey they undertake cannot be replaced by money or even validations. It might take a day to learn to put a button in its hole. What matters is their will to do it and not the time taken. In a consumerist world, value comes from your utility, measured and quantified. But at Dare these yardsticks which we commonly use are of no value. The children of High Range School interacted with the Dare children in order to share and understand their unique world, and redefine their own value definitions.
